Note: if you are a teacher/staff member who fails a screen for any reason, you should contact a health professional and/or public health for further guidance.

What caused the failed screen or decision to stay home?

AT LEAST ONE of the following applies: a) Travel outside of Canada in the past 14 days (b) Identification as a close contact of someone with confirmed COVID-19 or been alerted by the COVID-19 alert app, or (c) Direction from a healthcare provider and/or public health to self-isolate


1. The child should stay home and isolate immediately 2. Contact a healthcare provider for further advice and/or assesment if you have not already been in contact with them 3. When interacting with EduSafe, complete the survery on future days by selecting 'not attending classes' and then click 'illness', or attend 'online' if your school provides this option 4. Do not physically return to school until a healthcare provider and/or public health has instructed you that it is safe to do so. At that time you should once again complete the daily screening questionnaire on EduSafe




AT LEAST ONE of the following symptoms is present: a) Fever or chills (b) Shortness of breath (c) Cough or (d) Decreased or loss of sense of smell or taste


1. The child should stay home and isolate immediately 2. Contact a healthcare provider for further advice and/or assesment 3. When interacting with EduSafe, complete the survey on future days by selecting 'not attending classes' and then click 'illness', or attend 'online' if your school provides this option 4. Do not physically return to school until a healthcare provider has instructed you that it is okay to do so. At that time you should once again complete the daily screening questionnaire on EduSafe




AT LEAST TWO of the following symptoms are present:​ a) Sore throat (b) Stuffy and/or runny nose (c) Atypical Headache (d) Nausea, vomitting, and/or diarrhea or (e) Fatigue, lethargy, muscle aches or malaise


1. The child should stay home and isolate immediately 2. Contact a healthcare provider for further advice and/or assesment 3. When interacting with EduSafe, complete the survey on future days by selecting 'not attending classes' and then click 'illness', or attend 'online' if your school provides this option 4. Do not physically return to school until a healthcare provider has instructed you that it is okay to do so. At that time you should once again complete the daily screening questionnaire on EduSafe




ONLY ONE of the following symptoms is present:​ a) Sore throat (b) Stuffy and/or runny nose (c) Atypical Headache (d) Nausea, vomitting, and/or diarrhea or (e) Fatigue, lethargy, muscle aches or malaise


Your child should stay home FOR AT LEAST 24 hours and they should be monitored. After 24 hours from when the symptom began they should be reassessed. If their symptom is IMPROVING, they are able to return to school. In this case when completing the EduSafe screen on future days, the symptom in question would no longer be considered 'new or worsening' so should be answered as 'NO' when prompted. ​​ BUT If their symptom is PERSISTENT or WORSENING at the end of 24 hours, OR they have developed additional symptoms, they should not return to school. Rather: 1. The child should stay home and isolate immediately 2. Contact a healthcare provider for further advice and/or assesment 3. When interacting with EduSafe, complete the survey on future days by selecting 'not attending classes' and then click 'illness', or attend 'online' if your school provides this option 4. Do not physically return to school until a healthcare provider has instructed you that it is okay to do so. At that time you should once again complete the daily screening questionnaire on EduSafe
